LOST SOUL Day 8

I didn't do much yesterday because, as I thought, family time got in the way. Amazingly enough I'm not feeling guilty at only doing 3 pages yesterday and as a bonus the dear lady wife sent me up to my office straight after lunch to get on with the screenplay. It's fantastic to share my life with such an understanding woman.

By the way, I watched SUBMARINE last night; what a bloody brilliant film!!! Go buy or hire.

Better get to it then.

Yeah Submarine is great. Have you seen Tyrannosaur yet? 11 was a great year for British indies

Well I never expected that...

I rang the script editor to check in with him and he told me to slow down...yes, he told me to stop writing so fast and putting so much effort in.

The reason? He doesn't want to send a perfect draft to the producer and director first go, because they're going to have their say and will want to change quite a bit. Sending a perfect draft, one I've bust a gut on, is only going to lead to disappointment for me when they ask for a lot of changes. He told me it was better to hand in an average draft first off so they can add the changes they want and then when they're happy I can do my stuff and polish the life out of it.

What he's saying makes sense, but it goes against every instinct I have. I want EVERY draft to be the best it can be, not just the last.

So I'm going to listen to him and take my foot of the gas... but just a little. It's my first paid feature after all and I do want to impress.

I'll just do a couple of pages then and call it a day.

No I haven't seen that. I'll keep an eye out for it.

Writing going well today, speeding along, ideas flowing nicely.

Another few pages done.

A great scene where the suggestion of drugs was planted as a red herring. Keep them guessing until the end, that's the way I like to do it.
