And So It Begins...

INT. DOM'S OFFICE, DAY ONE - DAY

A piping hot mug of black coffee on the desk next to me (my first of 2012), outline printed, Final Draft open, document open, page one, cursor flashing... and I'm ready to go.

And so starts thirty-one mad days of writing the first draft of THE LOST SOUL, my first commissioned feature screenplay of 2012. I'll try and blog every day so you can follow my progress. The aim is to show the first draft writing process warts an all so you can be there to see how many pages I've done, or haven't, if and when panic sets it and how I'm feeling throughout the process. I am aiming to be brutally honest with everything I say, which will quite possibly mean most of what you read won't be pretty.

Are you ready? Then let's go.

As soon as I typed FADE IN: the panic hit me and all I could think of was, 'OMG, what the feck have I done? They're soon going to realise I'm a fraud and can't write. They're going to sack me, write blogs about my ineptitude and demand their money back.' But that feeling didn't last for long after I put a little writing music on (I find Oasis downs out distractions).

The first page took me nearly an hour and a half, but it's done and out of the way and I can finally breath. I'm underway and the words are flowing. Panic over...for now!

Why are there no effing red pens when you need them? Bring them back you fecking pen thief!!!!

Text the wife for a cup of tea half an hour ago, still dry. I might have to fire her!

Went downstairs to make my own cup of tea only for the wife to ask for one too...disgraceful.

Red pen found and used.

Four pages down already - WOO HOO! This writing malarkey is a doddle :-)

I suspect however, most days this month won't be as easy as this. Tomorrow for instance my brother-in-law Auntie Steve has invited us all out for a day in Swanage. My first instinct was why??? Then I realised the dear lady wife will be expecting me to go considering it's a Bank Holiday and all...

I'm just wondering what part of '90 pages in 31 days' she didn't understand.

Right 5 pages down, that'll do for today. Not bad for my first day...I might even treat myself to a beer in quiet celebration.

Better go and spend some time with the family before they forget what I look like, after all it is Sunday... hold on... there's football on :-)

Join me tomorrow.

Sounds like you're doing well. Really great news that you've got the commission. But Swanage? Get a page in before you go and then at least you're on target for average pages.
Looking forward to your updates.
