My script for the Red Planet Prize has finally been posted, after I resisted the urge to open it and check it one more time. Now all I can do is wait.

As I say on my blog, "It's not the rejection. I can handle the rejection. It's the hope I can't stand." And so, like so many others I wait nervously day by day for any news...I just want to know.

When I first used to send my scripts out I used to get my wife to kiss the envelope. Then I thought it was a bit silly, so I stopped. Kissing the envelope myself was also mad, so I stopped that too. I had to strongly fight the urge in the Post Office to do that today. In the end I decided to let my eleven month old son chew one of the corners of the envelope instead. Just a couple of quick chews with a minimum amount of dribble.

It got me thinking, what do you do, for luck or superstition, before you send off a script?

I have to take my script hot off the printing press and straight to the PO, no deviation - or strange things happen to my brain.

Because I wasn't able to do this with my RPP entry and it sat on my shelf for all of three hours alone, I've already told myself that my script and or pitch doc somehow climbed out of the sealed envelope and then sealed it again so I was unaware of its skullduggery, so now I can't win.

I've never sent a script anywhere. Tomorrow will be the first time. Any suggestions for superstitious habits I could pick up? Suck a lucky rabbit's foot? Cross a friends fingers? (I need mine for typing) Wear ladies panties? Hang on...

Kiss the envelope with bold pillar box red lipstick. I do this every time - no shame - no embarrassment.

One time, the post master covered the lipstick mark with a post label and I had a hissy fit (didn't have the talisman lipstick on me at the time to redo).

So he got his wife to re-do her lisptick and place another kiss on a different corner on the envelope for me (we live in a village - couldn't possibly happen in a town, I don't think).

Just for good luck, you understand.

Good luck with RPP. I've entered too.

Lipstick. Red lipstick. God knows I want to be a successful writer, but bold red lipstick? I don't know if I'm willing to cross that line...

Hi Laurence. If you want a suggestion for a superstitious habit then I suggest every time you post a script out you send me £5. My address is....

Dom, that's a darn good idea. I tried to send you a fiver but it wouldn't fit into the USB port. So I've left it on my blog for you. Scroll down and you'll see it :)

Thanks Laurence, I've printed it off and I'll be spending it down the pub Saturday. Do you think the Queen would lock me in the Tower for taking over her face?

And the strange thing is I look damn good wearing a crown.

I don't think the Queen minds. I sent her one of these pictures the other day; I'd pasted her face over the top of her face on a fiver. It was a top job, you couldn't see the lines. Nobody's come and arrested me yet.

Hang on, there's someone at the door.
