Email Watch

Fever Pitch

Everyone else I know has heard, but I haven't.

Have I fluked a place in the final ten?

The winners find out Wednesday so the webpage says.

I shall be checking my emails every five minutes for the next 24 hours. As soon as I know, so will you.

Fingers crossed for you.

If you can't stand hope, today must be hell for you. Good luck.

Good luck, Dom.

It's now 1pm and I still haven't heard either way... have they forgotten about me?

Cheers guys :-)

3.20pm and still nothing. I'm now getting paranoid. What if they didn't get my entry? What if they've tried to contact me to tell me I've won and can't get hold of me?

Check the phone; it's working!

Check the email; it's working too!

WTF is going on??????????

*Dom twitches quietly in the corner of his room.

"The 10 winning pitches will be chosen on Monday 25th June and the winners will be informed by Wednesday 27th June."

Ring damn you, RING!!!!!!

Dom, my theory is you're through to the 'read the synopsis' round.

Well, it's 5pm now and STILL NOTHING!!!!!!!

Dominic Carver said...

This is strange, nothing has been heard by 6.30pm.

I suppose I shall have to wait until tomorrow to find out now.

Let's hope you actually do! Wot a bitch if it's an email problem...

Dom

A few years ago I was in a similar position. It was for a ScriptFactory writer's group. Eventually, the twitching got so bad I rang them.

A cheery voice on the other end of the phone says of course she can tell me whether I'm one of the ten. What's the name of the project? I tell her.

"Oh. Can I put you on hold for a moment?"

She comes back two minutes and an eternity later.

"Actually, we've filled nine places. We're still discussing the last place. And there are two scripts in the frame. Yours is one of them. We'll call you tomorrow."

One sleepless night later, and I get the call telling me that I came 11th.

I'm not sure that that's going to cheer you up.

By the way, have you noticed what's happened here? I am checking your blog every couple of hours to see how you're getting on checking your e-mail. How sad can that be?

If I were you, I'd still check emails throught the night, just to make sure.

Just kidding. Get you pitching sleep. But check at midnight, to be sure.

I really hope you're in.

Paul, I had a similar experience with a Marchmont Films thing. I emailed, to see what was happening. They got back to say they were still reading 'The last 50 or so, yours included.' I was overjoyed. This was the first affirmation I'd had ever. NEXT DAY, they emailed to say sorry and good luck.

My emails occasionally get out of synch. Sometimes one will take up to a twelve hours to arrive.

Annoying when you're having a conversation with someone.

Crippling when you're waiting for something important.

But very useful when you want to pretend you didn't read something.

No news has got to be good news in this situation.

Good luck!

(of course, by the time you read this you may already know. in which case Yay! or Commiserations... as appropriate)

Really hope you get in, sir. Will be great to have someone to cheer on at the event! :)

No email again this morning so I emailed them. Two minutes later and I got a reply....

...I didn't win. They just forgot to email me by the sounds of it.

Thanks for all your support guys, and lets hope we all have better luck next year.

Shit! Just when I was starting to formulate a plan to persuade Lucy to attend, so that she could organise a mass-vote for you. :-(

Sorry you didn't make it, sir. I like to think that you at least got a couple of shortlists ahead of the rest of us.

And I'll be back in touch soon, I swear ta gawwwwd...

Bad luck Dom! Shit, after all that. Though this has happened to me on about 16 occasions, so get used to it! Email can be unreliable. Dust yourself down and enter your pitch in my version of Fever Pitch. Had a whopping 5 entries so far that I'm aware of, so your chances are pretty good!

Jason - what plan was this?? Sounds dodgy...

Paul Campbell said...

Bastards!

Onwards and upwards, wot!

I was going to restrain myself from passing on my good news, because it might look like I'm rubbing it in.

But, f*** it, I've been shortlisted for the BBC Academy!

Luce: funnily enough, it was a plan to persuade you to attend, so that you could organise a mass-vote for Dom. But a motivational bottle of vodka may also have been involved. If we had a whip-round.

Paul C: Congrats! :)

Lucy V said...

I don't drink vodka. Soz.

Jason Arnopp said...

You misunderstand, madam. I was proposing to bonk you over the noggin with this bottle, should you still insist on this outrageous Cheltenham no-show. :-p

Andy Phillips said...

Rats. I really thought you were in there. Next time.

Phill Barron said...

They forgot to email you? Jesus. Commiserations, Dom. On to better things.
